Visiting Our Past!

Just when I thought it was over...

Funny creature, this Mother Nature!
Here I am complaining of crappy summer weather, more suited to a duck flying South than us motorcycle types, when we are delivered unto a fabulous Fall.
Several great days of seasonal high temps and sunny days provided a chance to view some of Calgary's attractions that I have never had to pleasure to visit before.

Isn't that how it goes... we spend more time travelling to see other's backyards, than our own sometimes.
Taking advantage of a warm, virtually cloudless days, Brenda took me to Heritage Park, on the banks of the Glenmore Reservoir. I have driven by the Park entrance about a Gazillion times, but never been in for a look see.
She regaled me with stories of visits with her Mom back in the day, and this day, I got a chance to see for myself what all the hubbub was about.

Located in the heart of Calgary, easily accessed by public transit or personal vehicle, the Park gives a view of transportion and living in our early days. This is not Greek history here, but a glimplse of our recent past.
An operating Steam train, a recreation of a Western paddle wheeler, horse drawn buggies, even a Tiger Moth hanging from the rafters in Gasoline Alley... Vintage rides for kiddies and adults alike, plenty of shopping opportunities and swell ice cream.

The day was well spent, certainly worth a visit. A hidden Gem in downtown Cow Town. Given the poor summer weather we had experienced to date, it wasn't surprising to see the expansive parking lot crowded during our visit.

You could easily spend several days wandering around, I'm sure I will be back to visit before too long. Gasoline Alley itself will require a gear head such as Moi more than a few hours.

We stopped by the local Gasoline Alley Safeway store for a loaf of freshly baked bread.

I was plumb tuckered out by the time the park was beginning to close it's gates for the afternoon.
The day had been so warm I even had the chance to hit the AC in the little red Escort.

Very enjoyable way to spend a fab fall day I'd say.

Highlight of the day, besides the Ice Cream...
A 20 minute ride on the Miniature SS Moyie around the lake!
The next stop on the calendar for us... Calaway Park!
